|Aflatoxins are carcinogenic, highly toxic metabolites of the mold fungus varieties Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Aflatoxin M1 is produced as a metabolite of aflatoxin B1. It is secreted with the milk after feeding of aflatoxin B1 containing feed to lactating cows. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established action levels of 20 parts per billion (ppb) for grain and feed products, and 0.5 ppb for milk. Grain, feed, or milk containing aflatoxin at or above these levels cannot be sold for food or feed in interstate sales.
|The Rapid Aflatoxin M1 Test Kit is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect Aflatoxin M1 residues in milk at 0.5 ppb.
